Event Details:

- The celebration had begun
by reciting verses from Holy Qur’an, read by Ahmed
Mansour, a student at Ahmed Safwat Elementary
School.
Eng. Abdallah Al-Hegawy, Director of Environment Affairs
Department at Sinai governorate delivered a speech
welcoming both Mr. Alaa Abdallah Badour, and Dr. Mohamed
Al-Said Gameel. He also welcomed the great assembly from
Al-Arish Governorate participated in the Mediterranean
sea day celebration. Moreover, Al-Hegawy talked about
Al-Arish city, the growing concern towards environmental
issues and how far does is this city linked with the
Mediterranean sea.
- In addition, he stressed on
the critical issue from which North Sinai governorate is
suffering; embodied in Israel’s act in discharging the
untreated huge amount of waste water at the Egyptian
Rafah city coast, near the Egyptian regional water, for
a period of nine years.
- This act has led to
the contamination of such an area. Meanwhile, this act
is a violation of all international conventions and
accords on the preservation of Mediterranean sea water.
Al-Hegawy, then, tackled the efforts exerted by the
Environment protection non-governmental organization at
Al-Arish in cooperation with the Arab office for Youth
and Environment, aiming at environment preservation.
- Environment protection is one of the important
and distinguished role played by non-governmental
organizations (NGOs) nation wide. Al-Hegawy proceeded
giving the floor to Mr. Alaa Abdallah Badour, the
General Secretary for the governorate.

-Dr. Mohamed Al-Said
Gameel, on behalf of Dr. Emad Al-Din Adly, C.B.D for
the Arab office for Youth and Environment, took the
floor expressing his great pleasure towards organizing
such an event. He, first greeted all the participants on
accepting the invitation to attend this targeted
celebration. Dr. Gameel emphasized on the great efforts
shouldered by the Arab office in many and many
environment protection fields. He highlighted that the
Arab office has been one of the first NGOs that are
concerned with resolving water issue in Egypt and has
potentially participated in several conferences on this
issue at the local, regional and international levels.
- He continued discussing the benefits the
Mediterranean sea offers for the basin countries located
around it, emphasizing as well on the economic, social
and political importance it grants for these countries.
Mr. Gameel stressed on the urgent need for protecting
the Mediterranean sea from pollution; being an enclosed
lack with renewable water every 80-100 year.

Consequently, all basin countries have observed
Barcelona convention on protecting the Mediterranean sea
environment concluded in 1977. For that purpose, a blue
plan has been set up aiming at protecting the
Mediterranean sea environment. Briefly, then, he
proceeded presenting a background on the Mediterranean
sea, which has been handed out on the participants
Mr. Gameel concluded
his speech expressing his heartful thanks for everyone
contributed on attended this targeted and constructive
