Environmental awareness and active involvement in the protection of the environment have become the main tools for achieving sustainable development.  Therefore, the AOYE Telephone Hotline Service Unit (Serving Greater Cairo) is for the past two years has been acting as a tool for advocacy through mobilizing the community and advocating for environmental problem solving. 

The Hotline is attempting through its service, to have an increased awareness of Law 4 of 1994 and to give the opportunity to the citizens to have the right to report and complain about violations.

This Unit worked during the last two years as a pilot demonstration project whereas its success will help in the dissemination of the concept throughout the country.  The clearest lesson learned from the practice, that the communities need lot of support and dialogue with the administration and with themselves. HLS was able to provide the platform for achieving this.
