Through
its Clean
Up the World (CUW) campaigns in
the last 7 years since 1993, AOYE dreamt of having a
so-called in each governorate to be a model for all
other streets. The dream turned into a reality as the
Arab Office for Youth and Environment began implementing
the Project in July 1999 with the support of LIFE UNDP
Programme.
The
objective of the project is to establish a comprehensive
environmental wise street in 27 of the Egyptian
governorates to be a model for clean, healthy, well
educated community street and called “Environmental
Street”.
The
"Environmental Street" project is currently implemented
in eight Governorates: Cairo, Monofeya, Suez,
Hurghada, Beni Suef, Minya, Sohag and Luxor and AOYE
is hoping to implement it out all across the
country.
These
projects are considered a model of partnership, where
NGOs, local residents, local authorities and other
concerned parties work together to produce an
"Environmental Street".
This
street covers various aspects, among which include
cleanliness, solid waste management systems,
beautification, greening and public awareness. Choosing
the environmental street is done through the
governorates themselves and not through AOYE, because it
is a cooperative project
