Project Objectives


 

  •  More sustainable a cleaner community .

  • To raise the awareness of the local community of the clean-up site and the general public about the issue of waste and its effect on our environment. This will be done through door-to-door awareness raising sessions led by youth and aimed at mobilizing the women in these households and the distribution of awareness posters and pamphlets.

  • By acting as a catalyst, AOYE aims to create a program that is sponsored and run annually by corporations and agencies that can be used as a model for other communities on how to mobilize local residence into CBO's and make a difference.

  • To develop an environmental street in each participating governorate.
 

 

 Rationale and History

 


 

  • The Arab Office for Youth and Environment (AOYE) had dedicated itself in the last seven years to tackle the problem of SW playing the role of the NGOs that are working the field of community participation and environmental education. AOYE succeeded throughout variety of activities to support the efforts for better management to the solid wastes and cleansing starting by the unique participation in the Clean Up The World Campaign (CUW) since its inception September 1993.

  • CUW was founded as a result of an initiative of an Australian Professor called Mr. Ian Kiernan to promote to global community participation activity in the field of cleaning up on or off shore for the sake of clean environment for us and for our coming generations.

  • In 1993 CUW campaign started by participation of few countries and the interested people and organization and NGOs increased year after year till it was considered the participating countries and cities in 1999 about 110 with a number exceeded 40 million volunteer.

  • Clean Up the World (CUW) in conjunction with the United Nation Environment Programme (UNDP) is creating the event by encouraging people to form Organization Committees and hold clean – ups in their local area. The event relies upon the Organization Committees (OCs) having full responsibility for the organization conduct and promotion of their local clean – up activities.

  • Working closely with the United Nation Environment Programme, CUW has been successful in gaining the support of international patrons and has secured funding to support the international coordination and promotion of the campaign CUW has also secured the support of many organization, including government, non-government, business and media sectors.

  • CUW needs to be able to assure these supporters that participants will conform to guidelines establishing the identity of CUW as an international event.
