The Arab Network for Environment and Development (RAED) through this progress report covers the period of First of November 2000 till End of March 2003 in the four participating countries “Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt and Lebanon” as well as the project EU partner located in Netherlands.

The Regional Community Solid Waste Management Program (RCSWMP) aims at approaching the issue of SWM by means of research, analysis, and confrontation of the root causes of solid wastes problems in four urban target areas in Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco and Tunisia.

The program is built upon five dimensions: the first dimension is the choice of four target areas and communities, in four Arab Mediterranean Countries, who suffer the most and stand to benefit more from such a program; second is the implementation of public awareness campaigns; third is a highly relevant and practical training program to be offered to the target groups selected; fourth is the promotion of SWM practices and techniques in these areas; and fifth is the dissemination of the results locally to the related project nature in participating countries.

The Arab NGO Network for Environment and Development (RAED)is implementing the RCSWMP project, which is the main contracting partner. RAED has its secretariat with the Arab Office for Youth and Environment (AOYE), Cairo, Egypt.
