non-member NGOs in the region; to inform NGOs as to the
latest in environment/development trends,
|
strategies and
technologies adopted by each other and
internationally; to focus on problem issues shared
in the region; to provide a calendar of the events

Also, RAED has
organized the Regional Consultation for North Africa and
the Middle East in preparation for the Rio + 5 forum
held in Rio de Janeiro, March‘97. In preparation for
this consultation, RAED has coordinated for the
organization of National Consultations on the status of
the environment in each country regarding the Agenda 21.
All these national
reports were compiled and discussed in the Regional
Consultation in order to form one document on the status
of the environment in the Middle East, the obstacles and
the recommendations. In this consultation, members
from NGOs, government representatives, and from donor
organizations from all over the Middle East gathered to
produce this valuable assessment.
Currently, the
network is preparing the Arab Environmental Directory
for the NGOs in the Arab region. This directory will
facilitate the communications and exchange of
information among the non-governmental organizations
working in the Middle East region. This will also,
encourage the NGOs concerned with the environment to be
more efficient on the level of urban areas.

view which was submitted in the UNEP Global Youth Forum’97,
