by the National Council for Negro Women (NCNW).
CSWMP is mainly a demonstration
program with comprehensive, technical and social activities to
tackle one of the major problems of the Egyptian environment which
is Solid Wastes.
Sorting at source (900 households) is the first stage that includes
separating the wet wastes (organic materials) from the dry wastes
(Plastics-papers-glass and metals).
The sorted garbage are collected regularly from the target
households and transported sorted in a special truck to the dumping
and operation site of the project.
The
Organic matters are treated to be compost by simple No cost / Low
cost technologies.
The
Dry matters are resorted into kinds through well-trained unemployed
youth for reusing and recycling (Plastic - Paper - Glass - Metals)
The
project got the experience of implementing comprehensive solid waste
management process to be pilot project that could be replicated else
where in Egypt or regionally.
